"How many times have you heard the phrase: "I'm my mother`s daughter"? Chances are you've heard it many times. But PLAKINGER has taken that to a whole new meaning and into the fashion industry: Galina Plakinger and Svetlana Ziggel talk about the challenges of co-creating a family brand and who's got the better sense of style.

 What is it like working in a family business, especially when it`s a mother/daughter relationship?

Svetlana Ziggel: There is a lot of strength and power in a mother/daughter relationship to capitalise on and we are trying to take advantage of that as much as we can. My mother and I always had a close relationship and that respect helps us to fin lots of common ground whenever we have a discussion, which we have plenty of.

Galina Plakinger: It is a dream constellation for me as I can be close to my daughter and her kids while working and her business trips gives me the opportunity to pamper my grandchildren. The great thing about PLAKINGER is that we can run it as a family business; it is not about me or Svetlana, but about building something that will last for longer.

How did the company came about? How did you decide to set it up?

GP: The idea of starting PLAKINGER evolved from my work as a bespoke tailor. Bespoke suits for men with their classic cuts are icons of timeless fashion. The level of work that is dedicated to details goes far beyond the quality of pret-a-porter collections. It was my intention to contribute these aspects and to create timeless, high quality clothing for women..."
